Experts: Online relationships causing surge in divorces

MIDWOOD - Several marriage attorneys and psychologists say social media is taking its toll on relationships and marriages, leading to an increase in breakups and divorces.

They point to Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D-N.Y.) sexting scandal as the latest high-profile example.

As Weiner's wife of 11 months returns home from a business trip with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, many Brooklyn residents say they are curious as to what she thinks of the sexting scandal.

There has been no indication of any divorce proceedings for the congressman, but Karen Sager, a Brooklyn attorney, says many clients have come to her looking for help because of online affairs.

Many psychologists also say they are seeing a rise in patients who are addicted to online sex or sexting.
