GREENPOINT - A playground in Greenpoint had to be shut down recently after debris started falling from an adjacent building.

The Department of Buildings shut down American Park after an inspection showed anyone entering it was in serious danger from falling debris.

Parents, however, say the agency isn't doing enough to keep kids out. They say although the park is closed to the public, the gates are still open and there's nothing being done to make sure children don't play there.

The Department of Buildings says it will perform a follow-up inspection, and if the building passes, the park will reopen.
