BROOKLYN - Family members of a Brooklyn woman who died 10 days ago say they have been unable to have a funeral because the hospital still hasn't released her body.

Eva Hilbert, 67, died at Kings County Hospital on May 7. The family's attorney, Edward Tantleff, says the family has been given the runaround since her death. Tantleff says officials refuse to release Hilbert's body from the medical examiner's office.

"It's despicable what Kings County Hospital as well as the medical examiner's office is doing to Ms. Hilbert and her family," says Tantleff

The family also filed a malpractice suit against the hospital and the city before Hilbert died. Family members say she wasn't properly cared for from the time she entered the hospital in November.

The family requested an autopsy, but has yet to receive any results. Tantleff says he's not even sure an autopsy was done.

Officials from Kings County Hospital, the city and the medical examiner's office would not go into specifics about the case but did say, "NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is in touch with the family and has coordinated closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to complete the necessary process in order to release the body."

After News 12 contacted the city, Tantleff was told the body could be picked up by the funeral home.
