Family, friends mourn teen who died in chimney shaft fall

BROOKLYN - Friends and family are mourning the death of a teenager who died after falling five stories from a school roof into the chimney shaft.

Police say Nicholas Gryak, 15, was found unconscious at the bottom of the chimney shaft at Roy H. Mann Middle School around 11 p.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, Gryak and some other teenagers had climbed onto the roof when he fell down the shaft. Friends and family left messages and flowers near the school building yesterday. Hundreds also left messages on a Facebook page dedicated to Gryak.
