BROOKLYN - The family of a 7-year girl who survived a brutal stabbing is looking for a new home before the upcoming start of school.
Mikayla Capers was stabbed 16 times in the elevator of her NYCHA residence in East New York back in June. Her friend, 6-year-old PJ Avitto, was also stabbed multiple times, but did not survive the attack.
The little girl's family says she has been staying with a relative in Queens since being released from the hospital, while her family continues trying to work with the city on a new, safe place for her to call home.
