BROOKLYN - Today marked an emotional day for many residents, as family members of soldiers prepared to send their loved ones off to Afghanistan.

Members of the New York Army National Guard's 133rd Quartermaster Company held a family sendoff ceremony at Fort Hamilton today, ahead of the unit's deployment. Their mission is to support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and 131 of the soldiers will be heading overseas for a year.

They say they are prepared for their deployment, but it is always difficult to leave their families.

Before leaving for Afghanistan, the soldiers will have a three-week training session at Fort Dix in New Jersey.
