BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - Fans of the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. have started a petition to name a Brooklyn street after him.

The petition asks Community Board 2 to rename the intersection of St. James Place and Fulton Street 'Christopher Wallace Way.' The rapper grew up in Bed-Stuy and worked at a neighborhood supermarket as a teenager.

The online petition has gathered more than 1,000 signatures. The change will have to be approved by both the City Council and the Department of Transportation.

Leroy McCarthy, who started the petition, says Wallace's contribution to rap makes him a significant cultural figure.
