BROOKLYN - The Food and Drug Administration is warning pet owners to be wary of purchasing certain medication for their animals online.

The organization says some medications sold online are unapproved or counterfeit products. Additionally, some products, such as pain relievers, should not be used without testing on individual animals.

There are ways to ensure a website sells legitimate products. The website should have a VET-VIPPS symbol ensuring it is a veterinary-verified internet pharmacy practice site.

All medications should also be checked by a veterinarian.
