NEW YORK CITY - The FDNY says the department's recent graduating class is its most diverse ever.

Of the 242 graduates, 62 percent identify as minorities.

The department was sued about 10 years ago by a black firefighters group. Officials say the number of minorities working for the FDNY has doubled over the last 12 years.

The new firefighters will be assigned to firehouses across the five boroughs.
