BROOKLYN - FDNY firefighter Peter Demontreux was awarded the Medal of Valor in Washington today.
 
Demontreux is being recognized for his rescue efforts during a Bed-Stuy fire back in August 2010. During the devastating fire, Demontreux suffered burns to his face and back after crawling through a room engulfed in flames to save a 51-year-old man who was hanging out the back window.
 
The Medal of Valor is the highest honor given to public safety officers. Demontreux was honored along with 17 others.
