FLATBUSH - A four-alarm fire that burned through two homes in Flatbush may be related to other suspicious fires in the neighborhood, according to the FDNY.

Officials say that the "suspicious" fire broke out at 4:42 a.m. Thursday on a porch on Glenwood Road and quickly spread to the home next door. It left five residents and one firefighter injured and destroyed a newly renovated house.

Eight people live at the home, and three children were among those hospitalized with minor injuries.

Neighbor Karen Lieberman says a family had moved into the home six months ago, had just completed renovations and just had a baby.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro says that investigators are looking into whether it is connected to other recent fires in the area.

In March, a nearby home was also burned in a fire that started on the porch.
