CANARSIE - Help is on the way for Brooklyn residents dealing with problems stemming from Irene. Many are now eligible for individual federal and state aid.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved federal disaster aid due to the hurricane, for individuals, both homeowners and renters, in Brooklyn.

FEMA funds may be used to pay rent, replace damaged property, as well as pay for medical, dental, funeral and burial expenses related to the storm.

FEMA is urging individuals in Brooklyn who may be eligible for disaster assistance to apply and register online or by phone.
