BROOKLYN - More than a dozen callers reported a fire at a high-rise apartment building in Crown Heights this morning.

Neighbors say the flames could be seen coming out of the windows of an eighth floor apartment at around 7:30 a.m. on Bedford Avenue Fire officials say they received 15 to 20 calls from residents reporting smoke in the hallways and stairwells of the Fieldbridge apartment complex.

Crews had to force their way into the fiery apartment. It took about 60 firefighters to extinguish the flames.

At least five people had been living in the apartment where the fire broke out. All were evacuated safely.

The fire did not spread to any other units. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
