BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - A Bed-Stuy church has been left damaged after a fire swept through its second floor earlier this evening.

Firefighters responded to the fire at First Cavalry Baptist Church on Putnam Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. The fire was quickly extinguished, leaving behind debris and shattered windows.

Residents say the church has been around for decades and also houses a food pantry.

Firefighters say no one was hurt and a cause is under investigation.
