BROOKLYN - Members of a Brownsville church are grateful that their place of worship was largely spared from a fire that broke out there Sunday afternoon.

The fire department responded to a call shortly after 12 p.m. at the New Life Seventh Day Adventist Church on Thomas S. Boyland Street.

News 12 is told that the fire started on the third floor, where a youth meeting was being held at the time.

Everyone evacuated the building and no one was hurt. Church members say the building sustained minor damage, and they are confident they will be able to hold services there next Saturday.
