BROOKLYN - Residents in a Flatbush Gardens building say they are unable to complete everyday tasks, including laundry and grocery shopping, because the elevator in their building has been broken for the past month.

According to tenants, the elevator breaks down every few months. They say there are also two open violations on the building, one of which is more than a decade old.

Marison Ayala says she suffers from chronic asthma and can't walk up the six floors to her apartment without having an attack. She says she has to take the elevator in the adjoining building and then walk across the rooftop to her own apartment.

While News 12 Brooklyn was in the building, repairs were being made to the elevator, but the management company says it doesn't know when it will be running again.
