BROOKLYN - Fleet week kicked off today with military flyovers over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

The U.S.S. Iwo Jima also performed a gun salute at Fort Hamilton Park. Veterans said they were honored by the festivities.

The 23rd Annual Fleet Week honors the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Thousands of ships dock in city ports to kick off a week of celebrations.
