Fleet Week returns to New York City

The usually annual celebration of the sea services was canceled last year. (5/21/14)

NEW YORK - Fleet Week has returned to New York City! 

Three Navy ships and two Coast Guard cutters will dock at New York Harbor, bringing some 1,500 service members to the area for a week of free events that include ship tours, parades, aerial demonstrations and even military band concerts. 

The usually annual celebration of America's sea services began in 1984, but wasn't held last year due to federal budget cuts that restricted spending by the U.S. Navy.

Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn will be hosting its annual Fleet Week kickoff event with two 11-gun salutes. 

Fleet Week runs through May 27.
