Fleet Week sails into Brooklyn

BROOKLYN - Hundreds gathered in Fort Hamilton Wednesday to kick off the start of New York Fleet Week 2008.The thousands of military men and women that arrived by ship were met with a gun salute and public praise for their service to the country.?New York is an extremely welcoming city,? says Commander Kenneth Georgevits.The beginning of Fleet Week also marked the welcoming of two new historic markers for the heritage trail in Fort Hamilton. These included one marker for the Battle of Brooklyn and one for the Fort Hamilton Overlook. Additional Fleet Week events include a military car show, music and access to military ships where people can see how sailors live.
