BROOKLYN - School is back in session, and to help parents and students get back into their routines, News 12's Natasha Geigel set out to find some healthy back-to-school options.
She met up with Natalie Slater, mother and author of the cookbook "Bake and Destroy: Good Food for Bad Vegans." Slater says it's key to find healthy, delicious replacements for some of the empty-calorie snacks that kids usually eat.
Quinoa puffs by the company I Heart Keenwah are a great option to replace salty snacks like chips, and they're found in most grocery stores.

For a sweeter snack, the same brand makes quinoa clusters. They are made with toasted, lightly sweetened quinoa, mixed with nuts and fruit. They come in flavors like cashew cranberry, and they are non-GMO, vegan and gluten-free.
Kashi granola bars are another good option on the sweet side. They have super foods like coconut and kamut wheat, plus a bit of chocolate.
Fruit is always a great option for a sweet, satisfying snack.
