BROOKLYN - In this week's Food for Thought, a dietician is helping a local mother in her quest for the best healthy snacks for her children.

Nicole Perrino is a mother to two young girls, and she says she's looking for healthy snacks that are affordable for her family of four. Jessica Fiedler, a clinical dietician from Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, took Perrino to the supermarket to show her the best options.

Fiedler says buying in bulk makes shopping easier on family budgets. She suggests nuts and Greek yogurt are two good snacks for children. She also says to limit juice to one cup a day for children because of the added calories and instead opt for milk.

Fiedler also recommends keeping portion sizes between 150 and 250 calories.
