NEW YORK - (AP) - Former Republican Rep. Vito Fossella has decided not to run for his old job again this year.

Fossella represented Staten Island in Congress from 1997 until early last year.

He decided not to run for re-election in 2008 after he was arrested for drunken driving. The incident led to revelations he had fathered a child out of wedlock in 2005.

Fossella had considered running to recapture the seat and won the endorsement of county Republicans earlier this month.

But Fossella told reporters Wednesday that while he's humbled by the support he's received, he's not going to be a candidate this time.

Democrat Michael McMahon, who succeeded Fossella, is running forre-election.
