Fort Greene teachers fume over parking tickets

BROOKLYN - Some teachers at a Fort Greene school say last week they were slapped with tickets for parking on a bike lane that is covered with snow and ice. Kayinde Harris, who teaches at M.S. 113, says on Wednesday she received a $115 ticket while being parked in a designated area because her car was touching the bike lane. Except for Harris, five other teachers reported the same problem."Unfortunately, we can't stay out of the bike lanes," says teacher Charles Payne. Some teachers say they called 311 to get the snow cleared. The Department of Sanitation says it's looking into the matter. The Department of Transportation says regardless of snow, it's still illegal to park in or on a bike lane. Those teachers who were ticketed say they plan to contest the tickets.
