Forum held on anniversary of immigrant's death

BUSHWICK - Dozens attended a forum in Bushwick Saturday marking the first anniversary of the fatal beating of Jose Sucuzhanay.

Police say Sucuzhanay was targeted by his attackers because they thought he was gay. Sucuzhanay was actually walking down the street arm-in-arm with his brother at the time of the attack, authorities say.

City Councilwoman Diana Reyna joined relatives of victims of violence, as well as members of Latino, gay and immigrant advocacy groups to discuss hate crimes and remember Sucuzhanay.

Sucuzhanay's brother, Diego, is fighting to keep his brother's memory alive and assure his death was not in vain.
