Fringe group pickets BK Jewish center

BROOKLYN - An anti-Semitic group from Kansas picketed the Midwood Jewish Center Saturday, just days before the Jewish High Holy Day of Yom Kippur.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church gathered outside the center on Ocean Avenue at around 8:30 a.m., carrying anti-Semitic and anti-gay signs. They say they don't protest against Jews or homosexuals, but rather against sin.

The Midwood community responded to the protest by organizing a Rally for Love to counter the message of hate.

"I have no idea how such hate runs through people's bodies," says Erica Wiedemeier, who participated in the counter-rally.
