GERRITSEN BEACH - A Brooklyn family was left homeless Monday after frozen fire hydrants prevented firefighters from quickly extinguishing flames at the home.

More than 100 firefighters responded to a call at 77 Bevy Court just before 3 p.m. Fire officials say the first seven fire hydrants firefighters tried to use were frozen solid. Officials had to bring in water on a special truck to put out the flames.

Firefighters worked to defrost the hydrants after they failed to work. Officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
