Funeral held for 4-year-old struck and killed

BOROUGH PARK - The close knit Borough Park community is in mourning after a 4-year-old boy was struck and killed by a school bus Wednesday.

Police and witnesses say the child, Amron Altman, slipped on ice and fell at the intersection of 13th Avenue and 49th Street while walking to catch the bus at around 8 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, detectives say.

Following Jewish tradition, a funeral was held Wednesday afternoon.

Yanky Meyer, president of a local crisis support organization, says the Yeshiva Bais Chaim bus company driver did not see the small child coming toward the bus.
