THE BRONX - Hundreds gathered Friday to say goodbye to a beloved educational pioneer.

A funeral was held Friday evening for Derrick Griffith, one of eight victims in last week's Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia.

Griffith was a dean at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. He also founded CUNY Prep High School on White Plains Road back in 2003.

Griffith's fraternity brothers came from as far away as the Caribbean to pay their respects.

The 43-year-old had received a Ph.D. in urban education last month.

His wake was held earlier Friday at the Community Protestant Church. He will be laid to rest Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery.
