Funeral set for BK mother killed in Labor Day shootout

A funeral is set to be held this weekend for a Crown Heights mother who was caught in the crossfire of a shootout on Labor

CROWN HEIGHTS - A funeral is set to be held this weekend for a Crown Heights mother who was caught in the crossfire of a shootout on Labor Day.

The funeral for Denise Gay will be held at Faith Chapel Baptist church on Saturday.  A viewing will be held from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m., with the service and memorial to follow.

The family has invited anyone from the community to come and speak.

Gay was shot and killed during a shootout between a gunman and police shortly after the West Indian Day parade.  Ballistics tests have revealed that Gay was not killed by the suspect.

Gay's family says it has reached out to Rev. Al Sharpton to help investigate whether the bullet came from an officer's gun.  Sharpton is expected to attend Gay's funeral on Saturday.
