BROOKLYN - Volunteers in Gerritsen Beach are trying to brighten the holidays for needy neighbors.

Since many in the borough lost all their belongings during Sandy, community members participated in "Adopt a Santa Letter" to help families in need. The gift givers met up with recipients yesterday to bring a little Christmas joy into the lives of those who need it most.

The program is something the community plans to continue past the holidays for those who still need help.
