Girl, 12, hurt in Brooklyn hit-and-run

BROOKLYN - (AP) - A 12-year-old girl is fighting for her lifeafter she was mowed down by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn.

Witnesses say Destiny Camacho had just stepped onto LibertyAvenue near Shepherd Avenue on Saturday when a white van struck herand sent her flying about 10 feet. The van driver fled the scene.

The injured girl was rushed to Brookdale Hospital in extremelycritical condition.

Her father, Rene Camacho, said he wants the driver to turnhimself in because fleeing "was a cowardly act and God iswatching."
