Gov. Cuomo: File property damage insurance claims quickly

With Hurricane Irene finally over, many people are beginning to make repairs to their homes and are in need of help from their insurance companies.Gov.

BROOKLYN - With Hurricane Irene finally over, many people are beginning to make repairs to their homes and are in need of help from their insurance companies.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said that homeowners who had damage to their homes because of the hurricane should file claims quickly.

Officials say people should familiarize themselves with exactly what type of coverage they have, and ask their insurance provider exactly what forms and documentation they'll need to file a claim.

They also stress that it is important to take photographs of the damage before cleaning it up.

Officials say that if you feel you are being mistreated by your insurance company to file a complaint with the state?s insurance department.
