Governor's Island: BK's new summer hot spot

BROOKLYN - Residents from all over the city are discovering that a quick ferry trip from Pier 6 takes them to a unique oasis: Governor's Island.

The car-free island has become a weekend attraction for people looking to escape the city's hustle and bustle without spending too much.

Many people who've discovered the spot enjoy renting bicycles, playing minigolf and sharing picnics with friends there.

A wide range of free activities and events are scheduled for weekends to come, including art exhibits, concerts and performances.

The free ferry from the Brooklyn Bridge park runs on Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 25.
