Greenpoint church raising money to repair bells

BROOKLYN - A Greenpoint church is raising money to repair the 3,000-pound brass bells in its steeple, which have been silent for more than a month.

According to officials at St. Anthony's on Manhattan Avenue, a mechanism that helps ring the three bells stopped working when daylight saving time began in March.

Father Robert Czok says they now have three options to repair the bells, all ranging from $10,000-$25,000. He says a yearly raffle that usually goes into a reserve fund will instead go toward making the bells resonate through the neighborhood again.

The raffle starts next week and goes through June 12.
