GREENPOINT - A new home under construction in Greenpoint is not your typical brick and mortar, but is made out of shipping containers.

The townhouse on Monitor Street is being custom built for a Brooklyn family by LOT-EK, an architectural firm that specializes in designing buildings made out of industrial objects.

The project was built out of 21 shipping containers that were redesigned off site while construction workers prepared the foundation.

Once complete, the townhouse will have windows, a backyard and a terrace on each floor.

If everything goes according to plan, the shipping container townhouse is expected to be completed by early spring.
