Group steps up efforts to stop Coney Island crime

CONEY ISLAND - The Coney Island Coalition Against Violence and other local groups are stepping up efforts to combat crime in the neighborhood.

Since the summer, Coney Island has seen a number of robberies, shootings, rapes and other incidents. On Wednesday, PSIS 288 was on lockdown after a suspect escaped police custody. The coalition and its supporters say these incidents are the reasons they have to find innovative ways to stop the violence.

The coalition is also working on incorporating anti-violence curriculum in all the schools in the neighborhood.
