BROOKLYN - A gun buyback was held today at a Brooklyn church in an effort to get weapons off the streets.

Anyone who turned in a handgun or assault rifle was given a $200 bank card in exchange. The buyback was held at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church at Saint Paul's Place on the corner of Church Avenue.

The program, which started in Brooklyn in 2008, has collected nearly 3,000 weapons, organizers say.
