Haitian community calls for dismissal of DJ following comment

NEW YORK - Members of the Haitian community are calling for a popular disc jockey to be fired following an on-air joke regarding Haitian women and HIV.

Hot 97 host Cipha Sounds, whose real name is Luis Diaz, reportedly said on Friday that "The reason I'm HIV negative is because I don't mess with Haitian girls."

Diaz has since apologized to his listeners, calling the remark stupid and tasteless.

A group of Haitian community leaders gathered to demonstrate outside the station's headquarters today, demanding Diaz's dismissal.

Diaz is a host on the morning show, "The Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg Show."

AP wires contributed to this report.
