EAST NEW YORK - The Alliance for a Healthier New York, which backs the so-called obesity tax on sugary drinks, wants to "buyback" sodas in exchange for healthier choices.

The program is modeled on the gun "buyback" program that has been successful for police departments across the country.

Gov. David Paterson has proposed the tax on such beverages to help close the state's multibillion budget gap.
