Health officials warn against whooping cough

BROOKLYN - With the number of confirmed cases doubling over the last year, state health officials are urging people to get their children vaccinated against whooping cough. Officials say the infection can result in a serious cough that lasts for months that could be accompanied by a whooping noise, vomiting or difficulty in catching your breath.

The state health commissioner says the illness is especially dangerous for children under a year old.
