BROOKLYN - A new app is getting some big recognition for helping New Yorkers stay healthy while eating out.

HealthyOut is this year's winner of the annual NYC BigApps contest, beating out hundreds of other software developers.

It allows smartphone users to choose a specific diet, such as low calorie, vegetarian or gluten free, and find a meal or restaurant nearby.

The app even has a calorie section, and a fast food option for people who decide to indulge once in a while.
