BROOKLYN - Brooklyn high school students spent the day visiting veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder in the borough.
Through the Hearing Our Heroes program, students gathered at the Brooklyn VA to hear the stories from soldiers once on the frontlines of battle. The program now has 300 members that help veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress throughout the year.
Former Marine and U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm says that he knows firsthand how difficult it can be to transition back to society after servicing overseas. He says the students who participate in the Hearing Our Heroes program make a big difference in the lives of veterans.
“I think it touches them in a way that all the doctors in the world couldn't touch,” says Grimm.
