BROOKLYN - A heat advisory was placed in effect for Brooklyn on Wednesday.

The city advised New Yorkers to wear loose and light-colored clothing, to keep hydrated and if possible stay somewhere with air conditioning.

The Office of Emergency Management teamed up with members of the New York City Football Club for a public service announcement on how to stay safe in the extreme heat.

Officials say most heat-related deaths in New York City happen inside hot homes.  They urged people to stay indoors in cool places.  And for those outside, find shade and drink plenty of water.

They say senior citizens and children are at a higher risk for heat-related illness, as well as anyone who suffers from chronic medical problems such as heart disease or breathing issues.

Officials also advised pet owners to be mindful of hot pavement that can burn dog's paws.
