(09/04/06) CROWN HEIGHTS ? A city sanitation worker recognized for his heroism a year ago was shot and killed outside a building in Brooklyn Monday.

Three others were also wounded in the shooting. One of the victims was hospitalized in critical condition, the other two were expected to survive. The shooting, which killed 33-year-old Damon Allen, took place around 1:30 a.m.

Allen was recognized by the sanitation department and Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his efforts in saving a 4-year-old girl last September. The slain city worker helped rescue the girl from a burning building while on his garbage route in Canarsie. No suspects have been arrested in the shootings. Allen leaves behind two daughters, aged 13 and 5.
