CROWN HEIGHTS - Three staff members at a Crown Heights high school were honored Tuesday for their quick actions that possibly saved a stabbed honors student's life.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz presented physical education teacher and basketball coach Todd Myles, nurse practitioner Vivian Gardner and school safety agent Shelia Nesbit with awards at Paul Robeson School for Business and Technology.

Myles and Gardner revived the student by performing CPR and chest compressions while Nesbit stopped the bleeding by placing pressure on the victim's stab wounds.

"I did it because it's my school," says Myles. "I would do it for anybody."

The victim, 18-year-old Kyle Owens, was found bleeding in a hallway of the Albany Avenue school March 28. He's now paralyzed, but had an operation Monday to help him breathe on his own.

According to Owens' relatives, charges have been upgraded against the alleged attacker, 16-year-old Tareeq Blackwood, to now include attempted murder. He was rearrested Monday.
