Homes flooded after plow hits hydrant

MILL BASIN - ? Officials say a snowplow hit a fire hydrant Sunday, leaving several Flatlands homeowners with extensive flood damage.

The fire hydrant was located on Avenue T and East 59th Street. Officials say the broken hydrant sent water gushing into the basements of nearby homes.

Residents say their homes sustained thousands of dollars of damage and many items, including their Christmas gifts, were lost in the flood.

Officials say flood victims need to file a claim for damages with the New York City Comptroller's Office.
