BROOKLYN - Tenants of Homewood Gardens, a privately owned housing complex in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, say black residents in their buildings aren't treated as well as their white counterparts.

The tenants have called on Legal Services NYC to file a federal lawsuit against Shay Wasserman, the landlord of the buildings, for harassment and discrimination.

Lawyers from Legal Services say that tenants in 20 out of 52 units in the complex feel they were forced out of their apartments during Wasserman's ownership. 

They say the majority of new tenants are white, and they only know of one black tenant who was allowed to move in since Wasserman purchased the building in 2009.
