BENSONHURST - Hundreds of students participated in a neighborhood cleanup today throughout Bensonhurst.

Nearly 500 students from a dozen Brooklyn high schools cleaned up around Bensonhurst and handed out fliers informing local residents of how they can maintain their own streets.

The event is part of the "Speak Up and Cleanup" campaign, which was started by Assemblyman William Colton in 2011. The campaign does three to five cleanups a year, but organizaers say this is the largest group they get.
