BROOKLYN - Hundreds of teachers, parents and students rallied in front of a Sunset Park school today to protest the looming layoffs of about a dozen teachers.

Officials at P.S. 503 on 59th Street say they received a letter about a month ago stating that about 12 teaching positions at the school could be eliminated.

Teachers at the school say they don't know who among them could get laid off, but they fear that the cuts could impact the arts department and have a detrimental effect on the students.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has until the end of the month to bring his final budget proposal for a vote.
