BROOKLYN - Students at David A. Boody Intermediate School toured a cemetery Tuesday to learn about the man who their school is named after.

The students gained a better understanding of their school's namesake at Green-Wood Cemetery, where the man who served many roles in New York City lies.

When Brooklyn was a city, Boody was its 23rd mayor in 1892 and 1893. He was also one of the founders of the New York City Public Library system.

Boody was able to give back to the community thanks to a successful financial career as a banker.

Also in attendance were members of the Boody family, who say they were impressed that the school took the time to understand why he was so important.

Students say they not only got an educational experience at the cemetery, but were also inspired by what Boody accomplished in his lifetime.
